12th Grade Student
Khalea has been attending Ohio Connections Academy since 2013. Currently a senior, she believes that the last 10 years at Connections Academy have taught her more about herself, including how she best learns and studies as well as how to set herself up for future success.

“Ohio Connections Academy has allowed me to learn and grow in a space I would not have had without this program and the amazing team of teachers and my learning coach by my side,” Khalea says.
For Khalea, the primary benefit of online learning was clear from the beginning: the ability to work at her own pace while training in martial arts, studying art, and following paths for her future choices. She can do her classwork when and where she wants to, but knows that when she needs extra help, her teachers are available to offer one-on-one support.

Navigating Difficult Subjects
Sometime during their education, every student is going to hit a roadblock—or quite a few! For Khalea, one subject that just didn’t stick was tenth grade geometry. Thankfully for Khalea, she had the patient support of Mr. Means, who she recalls went out of his way to help her through the more difficult parts of the coursework.
“If it hadn't been for his dedication to helping me and working with me on test corrections, I would not have passed the class,” Khalea says. “He is an amazing teacher, and any student would be lucky to have him.”
Pursuing Her Passions Outside of the Classroom
In her spare time, Khalea enjoys martial arts, sword fighting, and cosplay. Because of the flexibility that Ohio Connections Academy offers, she can dedicate more time to her passions with art and other subjects—something that wasn’t possible in a traditional classroom environment.
After graduation, Khalea intends to enter an apprenticeship program for tattoo artists.
